Sugar Hair Removal F.A.Q.
How long does my hair have to be & what are the pre-appointment procedures?
-
Starting now, moisturize the area daily after the shower.
-
Exfoliate three times a week and the day before your appointment.
-
Drink lots of water the day before and day of your appointment.
-
Wear loose pants to your appointment and bringing a fresh change of underwear would be even better.
-
Relax. It’s going to be just fine!
If your hair is too short you will not achieve your desired results.
Your hair needs to be 1/4 inch or the length of a grain of rice.
So grow out times will vary but this gives you a general idea.
It's better to have more hair growth than too little growth.
Eyebrows & Face: 10-14 days
Brazilian, Bikini & Legs: 10-14 days but longer is better
Underarms: 4-7 days
What are the post-appointment procedures?
After-care for 24-48 hours after:
-
Keep the area clean and avoid heat or friction.
-
Avoid sweaty exercise, hot tubs, saunas, etc.
-
No tanning/sunbathing.
-
Avoid tight clothing.
-
Apply cool compress as needed for redness.
What is the maintenance of a sugaring service?
Your first three sessions should be 4 weeks apart for optimal results. After your third session we can book anywhere from 4-6 weeks apart based on your hair growth. Over time your hair will become finer and thinner so you will be able to space your appointments out with longer time between.
Between appointment care:
-
No shaving between appointments.
-
Exfoliate 2-3 times a week (scrub/brush/pads)
-
Moisturize/oil daily after the shower.
-
Drink lots of water daily.
-
Book your sugar appointments for every 4-6 weeks.
How long will my first sugar appointment take?
At your first brazilian appointment I block out extra time so I can explain the procedure and answer any questions you have. If your hair is more dense then I take smaller sections to make it more comfortable. We will block out 45 minutes for your first appointment and 30 each session after that. This includes plenty of time for you to get comfortable before, freshened up after and of course check out and reschedule.
When you book any sugaring service through the on-line booking it will show you the amount of time each sugaring appointment will take.
Well we are removing hair from the follicle in a sensitive area.
However, unlike traditional wax, sugar paste cannot adhere to live skin cells. Live skin cells are wet, and because sugar paste is water soluble, it will not adhere to live skin cells. This means less discomfort for you.
With that being said, there are some things that can be done to reduce any discomfort.
1. Take an OTC pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment.
2. When the skin is pulled tight it will help reduce some of the pain. As much as I try to pull the skin tight you can help too...this might help keep your mind off of the service as well.
3. Don't consume caffeine until after your appointment.
4. Some find that numbing creams help, whether it's the placebo effect or not, it's worth a try if you're nervous.
5. Lastly, just remember that any pain you have will be temporary. It definitely is over when we are done versus other forms of hair removal that might leave the skin feeling raw and sensitive.
How bad will it hurt?
Can you sugar my face?
I can absolutely can remove the hair from your face!
Hair on the face of a female is completely normal. The amount of and type of facial hair in women vary. There are so many things that can effect your facial hair growth from your heritage to your medication. Many women have changes in their body that can effect facial hair (PCOS, adrenal glands, medication, hormonal changes, etc). All of this is completely fine, you are still beautiful and I will do my best so you can feel smooth and confident!
I have been sugaring since 2014. I can assure you that I have seen all shapes and sizes of females. I have sugared countless women and there is nothing to feel awkward or uncomfortable about. Anything that happens in my treatment room is 100% private- that includes any thing from bodies... to hair... to conversations we have. I understand that trust is hard to earn but easily broken. I love my job and appreciate each client that trusts me with such a vulnerable service. And finally, just remember that any female sugaring another females has or has had similar concerns, worries, body parts, menstrual cycle, discharge and so much more!
Will it be awkward?
Can I get a bikini/brazilian during my monthly cycle?
Yes! You may be more sensitive during your sugaring appointment but I don't recommend rescheduling for two reasons: it is important to have your sugaring appointments consistent to achieve the best results, and if you reschedule you may end up waiting longer than you'd like for your next appointment.
I do understand, however, if you do not feel comfortable during this time and I will work with you to get your rescheduled appropriately. I want you to feel comfortable!
I recommend coming in at least twice before your big event. Doing this will give us time to get your hairs on the same growth cycle, which will give you smooth skin for longer. However, you are safe to sugar at any point up to the day before your event. With sugar there is no downtime after you service. The redness will only last about 15 minutes. In general it's good to get a session in 4-5 weeks before your event and your second just 1-2 days before your actual event.
I'm getting married/going on a big vacation, how soon before should I come in for my first Brazilian/bikini?
Ummm, what about the back-side?
Yep, I do that too! It is included in the Brazilian sugaring appointment. At the end of the appointment I will have you lay on your left side and lift your cheek a bit. It's no big deal. It goes super fast. I talk to you the whole time so you aren't awkwardly thinking about what I might be thinking about (which is usually something random and nothing to do with the appointment). Almost always the response at the end of this is, 'that was it? That was fast and not bad at all!'
